Passaic River Symposium V:
"Today’s Status, Tomorrow’s Perspective"
University Hall Conference Center
Montclair State University
October 19, 2012

The fifth Passaic River Symposium will be held on October 19, 2012 at Montclair State University located in Upper Montclair, New Jersey.

This symposium is a biennial, daylong event that brings together educators, scientists, government officials, community leaders and industry representatives to discuss all aspects of the environmental management challenges relevant to the Passaic River Basin.

Organized by the Montclair State University’s Passaic River Institute, the symposium has become the area’s most important forum for discussing the current state and future outlook for the ongoing remediation and restoration of the Passaic River.

This year's event will feature the Lower Passaic River Restoration Project and include invited keynote speakers and plenary sessions/presentations on all aspects of environmental management challenges relevant to the Passaic River Basin.

Symposium V will focus on sediment remediation as part of the Lower Passaic Interim Remedial Measure, the release of the Focused Feasibility Study, ecosystem restoration and environmental advocacy and public outreach efforts.  Projects in the upper river and tributary watersheds will also play a prominent role in this conference.

Call for abstracts and information on previous Passaic River Symposia can be found on the symposium website at csam.montclair.edu/pri/conferences.  We invite government agencies, corporate and consulting firms, non-profit organizations and academic organizations to apply to sponsor and/or exhibit at the conference.  Please direct any inquires or questions to the symposium chair, Dr. Meiyin Wu, at wum@mail.montclair.edu or 973-655-5423.

The mission of the Passaic River Institute (PRI) is to further environmental research and education and to help find solutions for environmental problems within the Passaic River Basin, including tributaries and surrounding watershed lands. PRI conducts scientifically sound research, monitoring and assessment, publishing findings in technical reports and peer-reviewed journals. Research areas include contaminant biological uptake, ecotoxicology, pollutant fate, transport and distribution, ecosystem degradation and restoration, and effectiveness of environmental policy. PRI also develops scientific content for environmental education programs and supports science teachers in delivering this content. Finally, PRI organizes academic and public conferences to facilitate exchange of ideas and information regarding the Basin. To fulfill our mission, PRI cooperates and collaborates with public and private sectors including federal, state and local agencies, corporations, schools and environmental advocacy groups.
